Almost every one of my health coaching clients has asked this question. Unfortunately, there isn't a simple answer. Just like a fingerprint, everyone's gut is unique. No two microbiomes will look exactly alike (not even in identical twins), and issues can vary from very mild to extremely complex, so healing time will vary from person to person, case to case. This is also why one-size-fits-all protocols work for some people, but not others.
Before I enrolled in a health coaching course and fermentation course, I spent over two years following the protocols of other practitioners. While their methods had some merit and I experienced some degree of improvement, they did not ultimately work for me. My gut issues were complex and unique. I had candida overgrowth and a massive imbalance of a particular mold which required very specific treatment. Once I learned customized protocols and used them on myself, I healed very quickly, within 4 months, feeling steady improvements along the way.
How long will it take to heal your gut? Only your gut knows for sure, but the level of dedication to your protocol and ability to incorporate changes matter. Most of my coaching clients feel improvements in the first week of following their plan.
I feel very fortunate to have had complex gut issues. Otherwise, I may not have been so driven to find solutions or spend hundreds of hours studying the microbiome, genomics and functional healing. If I can assist you on your healing journey, please email me for more information or to schedule an appointment.
If you would like to go it on your own, you can sequence your gut microbiome through Viome (which shows active bacteria, fungi, archea, viruses, parasites, and all their metabolites (along with food recommendations geared toward making your gut 'crobes happier) .Click here for a discount on the Viome microbiome sequencing test.
